July on the Isle of Skye

2 July 2019 I added three new butterfly species to the Skinadin list the other day - Meadow Brown, Painted Lady and Common Blue. I guess that many people are aware that 'Cuckoo Spit' is produced by the nymphs of a bug called a Froghopper. Well this is what an adult of the species looks like.

7 July 2019 This soldier beetle is very common on umbellifers such as Hogweed in July and August.

13 July 2019 The cemetery has yielded several nice plants, most noticeably a first VC104 record for Veronica hederifolia since 1982.

14 July 2019 The moth trap did its stuff last night after being rather temperamental in recent weeks. Twelve new species, including several Poplar Hawkmoths.

20 July 2019 A really good day for moths. Ten new species in the trap this morning (including three quite rare ones!) and then a couple more out in the field this afternoon.

26 July 2019 The Scotch Argus butterfly has appeared this week and I had a fritillary at Skinadin this afternoon. Unfortunately it didn't settle, so I was unable to ascertain the species. I had another short outing this evening and found a couple of new insects:
