June on the Isle of Skye

1 June 2020

Weather continues warm and dry. Returned to Kinloch for another session this morning. The highlight was another hoverfly that I'd never seen before to join the Dasysyrphus that I found yesterday.

A moth from yesterday's outing to Kinloch. I've had one in the trap, but never seen one in the field before.

8 June 2020

Having abandoned the idea of compiling another pan-species list this year, I am now concentrating on hoverflies (while continuing to record anything else I come across). I have recorded 27 different taxa so far, but it's been hard work; until today I hadn't found a really good site. Now that I have (a cotoneaster in Broadford) I just need the weather to co-operate.

13 June 2020

Oenanthe crocata is just coming into flower, so I had a quick check this morning and found this in almost exactly the same place as last year. A short session at Lusa in the afternoon yielded another new hoverfly species.

Sunny and warm again so I took the opportunity to visit several locations.

24 June 2020

The hoverfly list continues to slowly grow, but the highlight of the last few days has been this member of the Lauxaniidae family. It will be the first Skye record if accepted, though Stephen found one on Raasay last month.

26 June 2020

It's not much to look at, but it's one of our rarer moths with only two previous records for Skye that I am aware of.

This is perhaps the most spectacular creature that I've ever photogaphed!

30 June 2020

A very good day to end the month. Two outings - one to Kinloch and one to Skinadin - yielded three 'new for the year' hoverflies, my second record for the Scabious Sawfly and a dipteran I'd never seen before.
