March on the Isle of Skye

9 March 2019

My Skinadin list continues to slowly grow - I have now reached 200 species!

I'm looking forward to getting the moth trap out again, but it's too cold at the moment.

I'm still finding more bryophytes. This was a big hit when I posted it to the bryophyte group on Facebook.

A potter in the woods at Skinadin today yielded a few more plants (including the first flowering bluebell of the year) and also these two:

Rough Woodlouse (Porcellio scaber)

Note the orange patches at the bases of the antennae - an important diagnostic feature.

Phycopeltis arundinacea

Phycopeltis arundinacea is an epiphytic green alga and can be found in damp, shady places on a variety of angiosperms and ferns.

A sunny day today and I was able to spend several hours exploring an area of my PSL square at Skinadin that I haven't visited before. This yielded quite a few new species, including Red Deer, Snipe, Meadow Pipit and a Drinker moth caterpillar. New plants added today included Marsh Marigold and Barren Strawberry.
